January Newsletter from  ‘Ilkley Friends of Martin House’

(Registered Charity No 517919)

We are delighted to report that the group raised around £19,000 during 2011.  Many thanks for helping us to achieve this excellent result.

Since the last Newsletter in August, we have had supermarket collections at Tesco and Booths.  Thanks to the support of Silsden Brass Band bringing Christmas spirit to our collection at Booths we raised an amazing £573 in the 2 hour slot we had been given.  Thank you to Claire and the band for their support at both the bandstand and Booths.  If any of you (or your friends) would like to join the band, please give Claire a ring on 0788 4363148 as they are always willing to welcome new members

Our street collection in October was very cold and very wet but thanks to our band of collectors (including Alfie the dog!) we raised £660.  Fortunately this year we have both a street collection and performance at the bandstand on the same day – Saturday 16 June – which will hopefully be better weather!

Our support of the clothing sales at St John’s Church has this year raised £1000 in total for Martin House.  We are very grateful to St John’s for their contribution and are happy to help out with such a worthwhile event which obviously meets a need in the community.

We have received a cheque for £200 from Ilkley Carnival Committee in recognition of our help and made £178 at Ilkley Homemakers Christmas Fayre.

We are very grateful to individuals and groups who have undertaken fund raising activities in aid of Martin House.  Earlier in the year Carol, Anton and Karen all ran successful events.  In November Libby held a jewellery party and Darren took a collection at his bonfire party.  Pam R’s son and Norma’s granddaughter have both run marathons in the past year and raised substantial amounts in sponsorship.  The Box Tree restaurant has been adding a donation onto the bill of willing customers to send to Martin House.  The Clarke family, Ilkley Flower Club and Cantores Olicanae have all contributed to the success of our fundraising.  Pam and Norma continue to give talks to various groups and bring in some welcome income!

Thank you to all who have helped to make 2011 such a successful year for us, not forgetting those who have produced cakes, gingerbread men, jam, chutney, chocolates and popcorn and donated raffle prizes.

We would welcome suggestions for any other fundraising activities – willing to try anything!

Please let us have your ideas and thank you for your continued support.
